Screw Waldo. This man is the real deal - if Waldo was real (also fatter and and a bad dancer) it would be in the form of this man. You are probably wondering what the hell I am talking about. I am talking about Matt, duh.
Matt (no last name is posted) is a man who quit his job to do what he really enjoys in life, travelling and seeing the world. Born in Conneticut, quit his job in Brisbane, Australia and currently living somwhere on the globe. So now this man is jobless and is travelling anywhere he wants to. How does he finance it? Well, as he simply puts, he is just slowly using his money that he saved up from his job (which he quit on the year of 2003, at the age of 29). He is also telling the world that travelling isn't as costly as people make it out to be (he visited Southeast Asia, South America, Eastern Europe and other regions on a $1 per day budget). You might have to cut back from sleeping in a luxe hotel, or a motel even, but he says that once you know the things you can travel without (ie. expensive food, souvenirs etc...) then it is inexpensive to see the world. Apparently he spends less money on a per day basis by travelling then he did at home paying utilities and such. This was all before he was contacted by the company, Stride Gum.
Stride Gum saw Matt's first video (taken in 2005 - on his own budget) and liked what they saw. The next thing you know, the company is calling up Matt and telling him that they are going sponsor what he is doing with no strings attached. Matt doesn't have to chew the gum, or brand the gum in his videos, or put up posters or anything. Just a free trip around the world. Wow. So in 2006, his journey didn't cost him a penny. Matt? You are one lucky man.
He took a big step, giving up everything he had in life to pursue what he really wanted. Despite what anyone else might think, I think Matt is one of the bravest people I know (not personally of course). Not a lot of people can willingly throw away their financial security to do something of high-end risk. I can only envy someone like him. I dare not take a step out of this safety circle I am standing in, let alone forfeit what I have already built up to just enjoy myself. But I guess that's why I am not travelling the world on someone else's bank account. It's like they say, "If you got the balls, everything else just follows."
Just an interesting fact: Matt has visited 55 countries in all 7 continents. Dancing in every single one of them. He is a funny guy also. Here is a short excerpt from his FAQ page I found myself giggling to.
If you are interested in this guy's 'tale', per-se, then I suggest you go hit up his website here and read some of the stuff (and view the map of his travels) to pass some time.Q:Why is the world so screwed up?
A:Men.
Q:How do we fix it?
A:Women.
Enough talk, you are probably wondering what kind of a video he made. Scroll down to see his work. Some might be annoyed with the music, but I think it fits well. Others think that the video is stupid, but I know that all those people are bunch 10 year-olds that can't appreciate what this man is doing. So watch and judge it for yourself :D
